Here ye me, Dave D!

Note to Dave Dombrowski:
Complete the following two deals...
Trade OF Curtis Granderson to the Angels for the following (thus reducing payroll for years and keeping your team competitive): OF Gary Matthews, Jr. (LAA will gladly take on at least $15m of his contract), C Mike Napoli, IF Maicer Izturis, and P Jose Arredondo. And...
Trade P Edwin Jackson, C Gerald Laird, and P Bobby Seay (their projected 2010 salaries totaling approx. $10m) to the defense- and pitching-crazy Mariners for IF Jose Lopez, P Brandon Morrow, OF Ryan Langerhans, and minor league P Joshua Fields (their projected 2010 salaries totaling approx. $5m). Do this and you'll compete in 2010 and beyond Davey....

Winter is the Time for Trading

Before these upcoming Winter Meetings, I hope to post several trades that should happen and make a lot of sense, though of course are probably not going to happen... First off, let's look at the Cubbies and how they'll solve the Milton Bradley mess.

Trade Bradley to Tampa!

This has been rumored a lot in the past, and the reason I like it is because of Joe Maddon's demeanor. If anyone couldn't handle Bradley, it probably was Lou Piniella. If anyone can, it probably will be Maddon. Here's the deal (notice the financial equilibrium):

TB receives OF Bradley ($21m) and $4m in cash from CHC
CHC receive OF Pat Burrell ($9m) and IF Akinori Iwamura (approx. $5m)

How does this make sense? First, of course, the Rays need to pick up Aki's option, which is quite possible given his trade value. Second, the Cubs must flip Burrell to another team, because he will not be manning a corner outfield spot in Wrigley next year. So Deal #2:

ARI receives OF Burrell ($9m) and IF Aaron Miles ($2.7m)
CHC receive OF Eric Byrnes ($11m) and possibly another spare part from Arizona's minors

Analysis: Bradley DH's for Tampa, causes a few minor problems, but nothing serious, and earns his salary. Aki leads off for Chicago, providing speed and a lefty bat for their lineup. Byrnes proves to be a competent fourth outfielder and defender, and perhaps Augie Ojeda would be shipped with him, he and Miles switching teams but serving in similar roles. Arizona will get at least something for Byrnes' $11m, rather than just releasing him, and Burrell can survive in left for the D'Backs while providing some pop to a punchless lineup and some protection to Mark Reynolds. Connor Jackson can man first for 2010 as he proves that his bout with Valley Fever is finished, allowing Brandon Allen to hone his game with another beneficial year at AAA. Make sense? Better ideas?
